I'm sitting on the piano in the drum tracking room, reworking the cover song we chose. The song is originally a upbeat song that we are making more of a love song. So I'm changing the chords around to make it sound different/more interesting.

I LOVE doing that kind of stuff...making songs new by changing the feel and chord structure.

3rd Day in the Studio-Drums

I had two session players come in to play on the album. This is Andy Hubbard. He played the drums for album. Such a nice guy, such a pro, and an incredibly talented musician.

We were tracking drums for my song "Beautiful Boys" and he was coming up with some great stuff, but I just wasn't feeling it. And I couldn't really grasp what I didn't like. He stayed with my right to the end, his attitude was great, never complained or got annoyed, just a real pro.

3rd Day in the Studio - Bass

Today we tracked bass with Tony Lucido. He played some great licks. He had a great tone on the bass and really found some great bass lines.

Today we chose the other three songs. We also chose a cover song to put on the EP. Mitch put some drum loops to the demo songs and we started playing with feels of the tunes.

Met with Mitch. Excited!!! Laid down three tracks....Beautiful Boys, ILYHA, and Bad Boy in HS. Mitch is great. I love the studio.

10 days til I Record - Why am I still writing???

It's a beautiful night tonight. I have a gig tomorrow in this park concert series..should be beautiful...and I am stressing. Not because of the show, but becasue there are a million things to do before I leave for Nashville. They are mostly business things, money, schedules, and housekeeping details. But I just sat at the piano for two hours and started a new song.

AHH...I am so annoying! I am recording in less than two weeks and I CAN'T be writing new songs. Everything should be finished. I should be changing one word here or there, and doing arrangement stuff. My mom says I am like this because I'm a Gemini....two personalities always conflicting/fighting with each other. AND, it's a slow song. I have too many slow songs, I should be writing slow songs...What is wrong with me? And it's not like I have a hundred songs that are half done. If I wanted to be productive, I should finish one of those.

Anyway, I am extremly excited. I like my producer more and more I talk to him. Such a great guy.

Found an Album Producer

Ahh, It's finally spring. I love the rain and the flowers. In March, I spent a few weeks in Los Angeles...wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked. I met with a music production team out there. We had corresponded and they were interested in the project. We met several times and it went fine, but finding a right fit for a producer is like finding a great pair of jeans. It has to feel good, look good, excentuate all your good features & hide your flaws, and you have to be able to wear them for a month and still like them...well maybe not that last one. So they weren't quite the right fit for me.

Immediately after leaving LA, I headed to Nashville and continued my search there. I met with several very talented people and finally found Mitch Dane at 8am on my last day. He's exactly what I've been looking for-experienced, creative, talented, professional, and very chill. He's even won a Grammy, which doesn't necessarily mean a ton, but it's a nice accomplishment. He has a fabulously arsty studio in Nashville with several recording rooms.
